Chiropractic Medicine
Chiropractic medicine is by far the most familiar to those of us in the western hemisphere of all the alternative medical systems. Some chiropractic patients may not even realize that it is classified as a part of CAM (Complimentary Alternative Medicines).
Chiropractic focuses mainly on the body's support system, specifically the spine. This approach includes adjusting the spine to help the whole body regain and maintain alignment. Thereby helping to relieve pain and promote healing.
Though chiropractic care can be traced back to ancient times, the modern chiropractic profession was founded by Daniel David Palmer in 1895 in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer believed that the body has a natural healing ability. He also believed that the flow of energy was impeded by misalignments of the spine.
Mr. Palmer theorized that, since the spine is the keeper of our nervous system, realigning the spine would facilitate the restoration of the energy flow. Thus the body would once again have the ability to heal itself once the support system was realigned and the nervous system is unencumbered.
