Acupuncture Part 2
There are several techniques which an acupuncturist may use. According to the illness being addressed, needles are inserted at anywhere between 15 and 90 degrees. After the needles are inserted, they may be manipulated by raising and thrusting, twirling, plucking, or trembling. Again, the technique is chosen according to the patient's particular needs.
In some cases electro-acupuncture can be used. This is a process in which very small electric charges are sent through the needles to stimulate the acupoints.
These methods of acupuncture are used mainly for pain relief, in some cases even for anesthesia for surgery. Acupuncture has also been used to relieve nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy and surgery.
Moxibustion, using heat and herbs, is another popular acupuncture treatment. Heat is applied to the acupoints. This is commonly used to treat respiratory ailments such as bronchial asthma and bronchitis.
Acupuncture, in all it's forms, can benefit those with arthritic pain, or pain in general, asthma, even migraine headaches. To determine if acupuncture can help you, seek the advice of a qualified, credentialed practitioner.
